Ok doesn't look much in the photo but this was going to be the tallest obelisk in the world at 41.5metres. There were built to send messages from the pharoah to ra, the sun god. They would have spent ages digging canals round each side like you see here and then broke it away and lifted it up. Then it would be transported long distances without machinery. They were almost done cutting when it cracked and became useless. How annoyed would you be!
