  2. Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for leaving a message, and for your concern.

I'd like to reassure you, though, that what we're feeding Matthew is fine and age appropriate. I have far less concern over letting him eat chicken on the bone than I would over him being allowed to eat processed food with who knows what in it.

Matthew has never eaten pureed food, as you may know, and has managed solid food extremely well since he was six months old. The chicken drumsticks we select for him have no small bones and he is closely supervised when he eats ANY food, which is as it should be with such a young child.

Matthew enjoys a varied and balanced diet and I don't serve him anything I wouldn't eat myself. He doesn't eat salted food, or foods with added sugar. Wherever possible, he eats food I have cooked and the closest he gets to junk food is usually leftovers from the freezer.

I chose to breastfeed Matthew and he still has at least two feeds a day. Other than my milk, he drinks water, as I am concerned for his teeth, in light of his reflux.

As a breastfed baby, I have trusted Matthew to tell me when he is hungry, and what type of feed he needs. This has continued with baby led weaning.

He is developed enough to understand which parts of food he can eat, and which he can't, provided we guide him and supervise. He knows he can bite the bone but that it will not taste nice or be possible to eat, much like the skin of a fruit. He uses his fingers as well as his mouth to pull the meat from the bone and tends to throw the bone on the floor when he has picked it clean.

Unfortunately as you have not let me know who you are, I don't know if you speak from experience, having any children of your own or not, or if you want to discuss this with me further. I would be happy to explain the thinking behind this with you if I knew who you were.

In any case, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I hope you believe me when I say that Matthew is well cared for.

    Kind regards,

    Marion.
